Palo Santo
Light the end of the Palo Santo stick as you would a incense or candle. Let the flame burn for 30 seconds or so and gently blow out flame, or you may find it exstinguishes itself. You are left with a gorgeous soft smoke, you can hold the Palo Santo and "wash" the smoke over yourself, other people, sacred spaces, crystals, tarot cards, objects that you wish to clear and bless. Another option, you can place in a pottery dish or a large shell with the lit end away from the edge of the dish/shell so it may continue to smoke. You may need to re-light a few times but consider this part of your meditation.
Palo Santo is a mystical tree that grows on the coast of South America and is related to Frankincense, Myrrh and Copal. In Spanish, the name literally means “holy wood,” the smell has hints of pine, mint, and lemon, with a beautiful sweet and woody aroma. This makes it smell much more fragrant than white sage, which has a more pungent, intense scent. It can be used as you would a Smudge stick or incense. It is a wonderful tool to use before going into Meditation helping to clear and raise your vibration but also ground for deeper connection to Higher Power.
Palo Santo is able to be used once these trees have naturally fallen in the rain forest and lie dead for 4-10 years before they are harvested. This Sacred Plant Medicine helps keep the energy grounded and clear while enhancing creativity and bringing forth good fortune. Palo Santo has been used by shamans and medicine people for centuries for spiritual purifying, energy cleansing, and healing.
